Farewell To a Legend - Jack Lalanne died today at 96 years oldFitness legend and bodyweight exercise “god” Jack LaLanne passed away today.  He was 96 years old. He died from complications with a case of pneumonia.

If you are a child of the 50’s, 60’s or 70’s you likely saw him on television wearing his one-peice jumpsuit and shaped like a golf tee.

We here at Bodyweight Exercise Tips are very sad to see the loss of such a great man.  Mr. LaLanne brought fitness and daily exercise to the mainstream.  He remained loyal to his proven workout regimen that was effective 50 years ago and will be for the next 100 years.

Here are a few of Jack’s words of wisdom:

  • Anything in life is possible and you can make it happen.
  • Your waistline is your lifeline.
  • Exercise is King, nutrition is Queen, put them together and you’ve got a kingdom.
  • Don’t exceed the feed limit.
  • The food you eat today is walking and talking tomorrow.
  • Ten seconds on the lips and a lifetime on the hips.
  • Better to wear out than rust out
  • Do – don’t stew.
  • People don’t die of old age, they die of inactivity.
  • First we inspire them, then we perspire them.
  • You eat everyday, you sleep everyday, and your body was made to exercise everyday.
  • Work at living and you don’t have to die tomorrow.
  • I can’t die, it would ruin my image.
  • If man makes it, don’t eat it.
  • If it tastes good, spit it out.
  • What’s it doing for me?
  • Your health account is like your bank account: The more you put in, the more you can take out.
  • If one apple is good, you wouldn’t eat 100.
  • It’s not what you do some of the time that counts, it’s what you do all of the time that counts.
  • Make haste slowly.
  • Eat right and you can’t go wrong.

Known more for his fingertip push-ups and face exercises than anything else, LaLanne was a huge inspiration for the building of this blog.

Thank you, Jack for all that you have given us over the many years of your public activity.

Jack Lalanne was 96 and mentally and physically fit till the day he passed away, literally. How many other 96 year olds out there have the physique of someone in their late 50’s? This is a man who at age 75 swam towing boats with 75 people in it, if that doesn’t inspire you i don’t know what will any one whose ever lifted weights in a gym, done nutrition, etc owes a debt of gratitude to this man for his triumphs and contributions to the fitness industry.

“•Work at living and you don’t have to die tomorrow.”

True words these, just goes to show that healthy living and keeping in shape can allow us to live to a nice ripe old age!
