Burpee - Get the Most from Your WorkoutA great big, OOPS!  This was supposed to be the post for Tuesday, but I got my wires crossed.  So if any of you are wondering exactly what the heck was going on, now you know.  I got a few questions in like, “What is a burpee and why on Earth would I want to make it even harder?”  So, without further blabbering from me, here’s the right post…

Many of the advertising for exercise programs and plans aren’t really new. They are simply a repackaged form of what has been around for years. Someday, people will realize that if something sounds too good to be true, then it probably is. You do not need all those expensive pieces of exercise equipment or machines to transform your physique. If someone tells you differently, they are probably trying to get you to buy something! Unfortunately, not everyone is ready to put the work into getting the results they want. The fad diets, the latest “revolutionary” equipment, and ridiculous claims are an easy way out. Then people sit back and wonder why their body isn’t getting stronger and fitter! However, for those people who really want a challenge something different from all the treadmills, weight machines, and elliptical equipment, the information is available below.

The burpee is one of the most effective bodyweight exercises for total conditioning of your body. If you’ve never had the pleasure of experiencing a burpee, then get ready. They will get you into peak physical condition much faster than any of those useless fads you see today. They are free and you don’t need any equipment. However, bodyweight exercises are rugged and very tough. In fact, those prisoners you see that are so ripped out and in fantastic shape are doing this exact exercise. While getting incarcerated is not the way to get fit, there are lessons to be learned from the simple bodyweight training methods used in those cells. It’s not new and it’s not a fad – but it works – every time!

It’s a simple, but brutal exercise. You cannot hide from it and running away is cowardly. If you’re ready to step away from the comfortable machines, then it’s time to grab a stop watch and get to it.

Performing a burpee is simple. You begin from a standing position. Squat down and put your hands on the floor in front of you. Kick your feet back as if you are going to do a push up. Complete one push up and then get back to your feet and jump up as high as you’re able to. The faster you do this sequence, the better.

Here is the demo video again, just ignore the part about the rings until you are truly ready for it. Also, you don’t need a converted warehouse to do these. But to get the best effects psychologically, you do need a prison cell, just kidding.

Start off with 20 reps. The next set, you will do 19 reps. By the time you count down those sets to one, you will quickly realize why burpees are considered the absolute king of bodyweight conditioning. Time yourself and try to break that time the next time you do the burpee ladder. This is one workout that will break a lot of people. You are going to sweat and you could even lose your lunch, but you are going to be stronger for it!
